Ausstellung "Blickkontakt" anlässlich der 16. NÖ Tage der Offenen Ateliers, 20./21.10.2018, Krems-Stein.
In Krems-Stein waren am 3. Oktoberwochenende 2018 musikalische Fotoinstallationen und neue Serien von mir in der Ausstellung „Blickkontakt“ zu sehen. In der „Friends‘ Corner“ wurden zudem Arbeiten von Lyza Sahertian, Irmgard Pekarz und Sebastian Haller gezeigt. Darüber hinaus war am 20./21.10.2018 auch die Gruppenausstellung „Grauzonen“ in der Kremser Galerie Daliko geöffnet, an der ich mit sechs Fotografien beteiligt war.

SOLO EXHIBITION IN PARIS
L'exposition solo présente les œuvres majeures récentes de Viola Rühse, photographe et chercheuse résidant à Vienne, en Autriche. Les photographies et les installations artistiques en noir et blanc abordent diverses questions telles que l'histoire européenne, la fragilité humaine, la valeur de l'art, l'intérieur bourgeois et l'utopie. En outre, trois œuvres traitent du thème de la musique classique et populaire en lien avec l'interprétation donnée par la violoniste Carolina Mazalesky à l'ouverture de l'exposition. Les images conceptuelles de Viola Rühse s'inspirent de la théorie critique (par exemple Theodor Adorno et Siegfried Kracauer) et du surréalisme. Une approche humoristique et ludique caractérise plusieurs photos, notamment pour les natures mortes.

Description
Trieste is a city and seaport in northeastern Italy near the Slovenian border. Once this city was the great port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and a vivid literary and cultural center of the so-called “Austrian Riviera” that inspired many writers such as Italo Svevo, Rainer Maria Rilke, and James Joyce, among others. Unfortunately, in the 20th century, Trieste experienced a decline. But after the fall of the “iron curtain”, Trieste has attracted renewed attention as a gateway to Eastern Europa. Its cosmopolitan atmosphere and cultural diversity are appreciated. Nevertheless, there are still conflicts arising by the complicated history of the city. According to Marisa Madieri, the past “fills with resonance and memories that little by little come together like mosaics, emerging in small vortexes from an indistinct magma that has been accumulating in a dark and disregarded depth.”
The difficult handling of the past (not only of Trieste, but also in general) is expressed in my photo series “Triestine reflections”. The photos show water reflections of the buildings next to the “Canale Grande” in Trieste. The long wide canal was created in the 18th century and functioned as an important center of city. The big houses at the canal bear witness to the great past of the city as a prosperous trading town. The colour of the photos alludes to old photos of Trieste’s heyday. But the buildings appear distorted. Some reflections on the past seem melancholic or even nightmarish and are a warning message. Other photos appear playful and allude to the aesthetics of Friedensreich Hundertwasser and Antoni Gaudì. They seem to be more optimistic, because historical wealth can also be inspiring and not only be a heavy burden. Taken as a whole, the symbolical water reflections of the buildings in Trieste are photographed as visual reflections on the past and shall encourage critical discussions on history.
Anlässlich der 15. NÖ Tage des Offenen Ateliers ist die Ausstellung „Ansichten und Reflexionen“ von Viola Rühse in Krems a. d. Donau zu sehen. Darüber hinaus werden weitere Arbeiten von zwei befreundeten Fotografinnen aus Paris und Wien präsentiert.
Bei den 15. NÖ Tagen des Offenen Ateliers zeigt Viola Rühse in der Steiner Landstraße Nr. 30 (bei der Minoritenkirche) eine Auswahl aktueller Aufnahmen. Zu sehen ist die neue Serie „Triester Reflexionen“ mit symbolträchtigen Spiegelungen von historischen Häusern. In der größeren Installation „Duino“ geht es um kreative Inspiration. Neben surrealistisch anmutenden Straßenszenen werden darüber hinaus abstrakt anmutende Kompositionen und die Reihe "Sit down" präsentiert.
Viola Rühse hat zudem zwei Fotografinnen eingeladen, in einer „Friendsʼ Corner“ ebenfalls Arbeiten zu zeigen. Die Pariser Künstlerin und Kuratorin Lyza Sahertian erkundet in stimmungsvollen Aufnahmen Italien fernab der Touristenpfade und reist extra aus Frankreich zu den „Tagen des offenen Ateliers“ nach Stein an. Die Wahlwienerin Irmgard Pekarz hat aus ihrem Archiv Aufnahmen von verwunschenen Orten in ihrer steirischen Heimat für die Ausstellung ausgewählt.
Die Fotoausstellung in der Steiner Landstr. 30/7 in 3500 Krems-Stein ist am Sa., 14.10.17 von 14-18 Uhr und am So., 15.10.17 von 10-12 Uhr und 14-18 Uhr zu sehen. Der Eintritt ist frei.

Photowords @ Art Malta Euro Tour, Palazzo Gancia, Ortigia – Syracuse (January 27th- end of February 2017)
“Art Malta” was initiated in January 2016 by Gabriella Mallia and Aaron Lu. In January and February 2017 they organize an exhibition at Palazzo Gancia, Ortigia – Syracuse. It is the first venue of the “Art Malta Euro Tour” in 2017. I have the opportunity to participate with my photos. There will be a concert with THE BUSKER at Punto G on January 27th, 2017, and an official exhibition inauguration event on January, 29th, 10 am.

Foto-Kunst in Krems-Stein an den Tagen des Offenen Ateliers
Anlässlich der 14. NÖ Tage des Offenen Ateliers wird die Ausstellung „Glances“ von Viola Rühse in Krems a. d. Donau zu sehen sein. Gezeigt werden Fotografien aus den vier Serien „Linien“, „Fassaden“, „2x Wien“ und „Herbst“. Darüber hinaus werden in einer „Friendsʼ Corner“ die Präsentation „Travel Memories“ mit Arbeiten von der Pariser Künstlerin Lyza Sahertian (aus der Serie „Bali“, www.lyzasahertian.com) und der Berliner Fotografin Alexandra Klei („Tel Aviv“ 2016) sowie Holzarbeiten von Bernhard Kastner installiert.

Lyza Sahertian organised an interesting group exhibition in
Paris for July 2016 and invited me to participate with my photos. The gallery is
situated in
Rue St Honoré. It is one of the oldest streets in Paris and only 300 meters away from the Louvre. The "Village St. Honoré"– the location of the Galerie du Colombier - is very
special and charming. You can see an exhibition view with my photos on the
right.
The opening was crowded! You can see a visitor in front of my photos and promotion material (with my new postcards) below.
The exhibition title is "SUMMER MOTION" and a fashion show with beautiful swimsuits took place at the vernissage. Here are some impressions (fashion designer: Yulissa Aranibar / Trapos Finos, jewellery: Alberta Musso, models: Maria Chiara, Barbara & Audrey):
The independent art fair "B.AGL ART afFAIRs" showed works by 140 international artists from September 18th to 22nd, 2013 (during the Berlin Art Week) at the Postbahnhof (Pariser Kommune 8, 10243 Berlin, S-Ostbahnhof). Various styles, techniques and positions were presented in an unconventional way.
For instance, curator Ada de Boer organised a "Contemporary Art Mall" with works by emerging artists and she included two of my photos.
Besides, there were concerts every evening and the catering was provided by the popular pub "Ständige Vertretung" ("StäV").
One of my photos has been chosen for the group exhibition "New Works Selection". 80 artists from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland present their works of art online.
The exhibition is presented at the ArtPackage online gallery and curated by the photographer Jürgen Oster (Sep 15 - Oct 30, 2013, www.artpackage.de).

DESCRIPTION IN GERMAN LANGUAGE:
Die Redewendung „sich auf Rosen betten“ dient laut Wanders ‚Deutschem Sprichwörter-Lexikon‘ „zur Bezeichnung eines sehr glücklichen Zustandes“. Der Ausdruck geht zurück auf den Gebrauch von Rosen in der Antike. So ließ sich beispielsweise der Tyrann Dionysios zu seinen Ausschweifungen Lagerstätten von Rosen bereiten und Antiochus schlief auf Betten von Rosen. In der Fotografik ‚Kleine Blümchen‘ wird mit der Inschrift „SICH AUF ROSEN ZU BETTEN IST EIN ZU DORNIGER WEG GEWESEN“ spielerisch die alte Redensart variiert. Der Text ist ähnlich wie in alten Gemälden in die Fotografie einer jungen Frau eingefügt worden, die sich zwischen vielen Gänseblümchen ausruht.
Die Arbeit ist bewusst durch eine ambivalente Atmosphäre geprägt. Einerseits verweisen Spuren der Müdigkeit im Gesicht der Frau und der umgewandelte Spruch auf die schwierige Erreichbarkeit von dem scheinbar großen Glück, das viele mit einem luxuriösen Lebenswandel verbinden. Andererseits wirkt die nimbusähnliche Umrahmung des Gesichts der Frau mit den hellen Gänseblümchen und die Lagerung ihres Kopfes auf weichem Sommergras auf die Betrachter positiv. Die Fotografik kann so eine Reflexion darüber anregen, dass zum Glücklichsein nicht unbedingt Erfolg und Geld notwendig sind. Nach dem ‚World Happiness Report‘ sind in den USA die Einkommen zwar seit den 1960er Jahren angestiegen, das allgemeine Glücksempfinden hat sich jedoch nicht geändert. Die kleinen Gänseblümchen machen darauf aufmerksam, dass auch die kleinen Schönheiten und Freuden zum Glücklichsein beitragen, sofern man diese wahrzunehmen vermag.
Für die altonale-Präsentation der Fotografik ‚Kleine Blümchen‘ bei ‚Blumen Oestmann‘ ist die allgemeine Bedeutung von Blumen seit dem Altertum als Symbol für Fülle und Glück von Bedeutung. So wird der Glücksgöttin Fortuna häufig das unter anderem mit Blumen gefüllte ‚ cornu copiae‘ beigegeben. Das Blumengeschäft Oestmann zeichnet sich durch eine besondere Blumenvielfalt aus; das Sortiment reicht von Gänseblümchen über Rosen bis hin zu exotischen Blumen. Die günstigeren Sträuße im Laden unterstreichen natürlich die Bildbotschaft, Glück auch in den kleinen Schönheiten des Lebens zu finden. Die teuren Bouquets erhalten darüber hinaus weiterhin die Hoffnung aufrecht, dass Fortuna einem irgendwann einmal besonders günstig gesonnen sein könnte und man das große Glück erfährt. Diese optimistische Erwartung wird mit der Farbenpracht der Blumen im Laden noch unterstrichen. Die bunte Blütenfülle kontrastiert spannungsvoll mit der betont sachlichen Darstellung in Schwarz-Weiß und der ernüchternden Textbeigabe. Das Geschäft ‚Blumen Oestmann‘ ist somit ein besonders ideales Environment für die Arbeit ‚Kleine Blümchen‘ und für die darin ausgedrückten Aspekte zur Glücksthematik (Text © www.photowords.de).
The Deutsche Guggenheim, an outpost of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in the headquarters of Deutsche Bank in Berlin, was closed after 15 years at the end of 2012. In spring 2013, the Deutsche Bank will open its own exhibition gallery, the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle in Berlin. The program starts with the special event “Macht Kunst - Make Art”. Everyone has the opportunity to submit a work for an exhibition. The hanging of the show is carried out by the guest curator René Block. The exhibition will begin at April 8, 2013 at noon and the diversity of the Berlin art scene will be on display for 24 hours. Photowords has submitted the work "Liebe zur Weisheit / Love of Wisdom". The ironic photo provides a visual comment on the superficial and limited love of wisdom in Germany.
Knowledge should be useful and usable not only in the economy but also at universities. A comprehensive education has become rare nowadays. Nevertheless, an attempt was made to remember the ancient ideal of the love of wisdom in provincial northern Germany. In 2011, a newly opened restaurant was called "Philosophie" ("Philosophy"). Together with the stylish interior, the name of the restaurant should be promotionally successful. But the restaurant closed down after a short time. Perhaps the provincial façade was too unsophisticated for the name of a high science. The aesthetic of the black and white picture is inspired by the photos of Bernd and Hilla Becher.
Die Deutsche Guggenheim, eine Dependance des Solomon R. Guggenheim Museums in der Repräsentanz der Deutschen Bank in Berlin, wurde nach 15 Jahren Ende 2012 geschlossen. Im Frühling 2013 eröffnet die Deutsche Bank in Berlin ihre eigene Ausstellungsgalerie, die Deutsche Bank KunstHalle. Das Programm beginnt mit der besonderen Kunstaktion "Macht Kunst". Jeder hatte die Möglichkeit, ein Werk für eine 24-Stunden-Ausstellung einzureichen, die von René Block kuratiert wird. Die Ausstellung beginnt am 8. April 2013 um 12 Uhr. Photowords ist mit "Liebe zur Weisheit" dabei. Die Fotografie stellt einen ironischen Kommentar auf die oberflächliche Bildungsbeflissenheit in Deutschland dar.

Trotzdem versucht man selbst in der norddeutschen Provinz an das alte Ideal der Liebe zur Weisheit zu erinnern. So wurde 2011 ein neu eröffnetes Restaurant „Philosophie“ genannt.
Der Name sollte wohl genauso werbewirksam wie die elegante Inneneinrichtung sein. Die Gaststätte schloss jedoch bald wieder. Vielleicht war die provinzielle Hausfassade doch zu bieder für die Bezeichnung mit einer hohen Wissenschaft. Die sachliche Ästhetik der Schwarz-Weiß-Aufnahme „Liebe zur Weisheit“ ist von der Fotokunst von Bernd und Hilla Becher inspiriert.

Zwei meiner Photographien sind bei der Gemeinschaftsausstellung von Künstlern und Gastausstellern der Galerie dulsArt vom 5.-27.4.2013 in Hamburg zu sehen (Oberschlesische Str. 17, 22049 Hamburg, S Straßburger Straße, Donnerstag - Samstag 15-19 Uhr). Die Vernissage findet am Freitag, den 5. April 2013 um 20 Uhr statt.
Two of my photographs were part of the group exhibition "EAGL quadriART" at the EAGL gallery in Berlin opening on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 8 p.m. and running until March 22, 2013 (Kantstr. 87a, 10627 Berlin, S Charlottenburg, open Monday - Friday 2 p.m - 6 p.m).
70 international artists from Japan, USA, Columbia, Russia, Great Britain, Brasil, Belgium, Slovenia, Spain, Austria and Germany showed their works of art in square forms.
A catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition.

Some of my photographs were shown at the 'bac 1st exhibition' in early autumn 2012. The interesting exhibition with many artists from over 20 countries was held at the Loewe Saal in Berlin. It was organised by the Berlin Art Club and a nice catalogue was published, too.
